They were eager to develop a sophisticated, scalable online video solution that would enable organizations of all sizes to conduct not only business but also educational events, over the Internet. They wanted this platform to be able to support potentially THOUSANDS of attendees from all over the world – certainly no small order.

APPROACH.

Immediately, the team at Pegasus One got to work on a WebRTC-based video conferencing solution that not only provided communication for online events, but that could also support smaller use cases like corporate training AND that enabled real-time interpreting into multiple languages as well.

After careful and ongoing discussions with the client, we quickly identified a number of key goals that would need to be accomplished, essentially all at the same time. These included things like:

  • Intelligent autoscaling.
  • Optimal CPU and RAM usage on host devices.
  • The ability to support not only multiple co-presenters in a single session but multiple concurrent streams per user as well.
  • Global content delivery with absolutely no exceptions.
  • Support for value-added features, like hassle-free file sharing.
  • Video AND audio recording capabilities.
  • 24/7/365 availability.

All this, while still supporting potentially 1,000+ users at any given moment.

Almost immediately, Pegasus One was able to win over the client’s confidence by devising a truly innovative approach to the system architecture – one that both allowed it to handle the required load AND remain as cost-effective as possible as well.

As the client continued to emphasize the importance of flexibility and communication, the Scrum model was suggested. This choice actually made the product’s progress far more transparent to the client than it would have been, and also made it very easy to introduce any critical functionality changes along the way.

RESULTS.

All told, Pegasus One’s platform provides a truly end-to-end online conferencing experience. This begins with the scheduling and setting up an interactive webinar and carries through all the way down to parallel translation and live materials sharing.

All told the team at Pegasus One was able to deliver a truly innovative solution that offers a number of critical features like:

  • Comprehensive Event Setup and Management: The organizer of any particular event can not only schedule virtual events, but also unique sessions within those events. All aspects of a live session can be managed from a single screen. Organizers can also choose who is presenting at any given time, can switch back and forth between two or more presenters,etc.
  • Extended Features for Presenters: Presenters can always answer questions forwarded to them by an event organizer, share additional materials with the audience via a virtual folder and more- all in addition to making their presentation.
  • A Robust Level of Interactivity for Event Attendees: Because multiple interpreters may be available depending on the context, attendees can easily move back and forth between one or more interpreters with the click of a button.

But perhaps the most important advantage that this platform brings to the table comes by way of outstanding scalability and performance. Using research findings provided by Pegasus One’s research and development division, the team was able to implement innovative autoscaling and connect multiple media servers thanks to the RTP protocol.

Load testing confirmed that the platform can be easily scaled up to handle at least 10,000 concurrent users, too – all while maintaining a latency of under three seconds. So ultimately, what this means is that not only is the solution able to handle a tremendous amount of activity during peak times in particular, but it can do so without degrading the overall user experience that all event attendees can expect to enjoy.

VALUE.

By relying on WebRTC technology, Pegasus One was able to successfully develop a robust online video platform that guaranteed high quality video and audio communication – all delivered directly through an end user’s Web browser. Because it comes with a plugin-free nature and offers a highly scalable architecture, it’s a great choice for hosting large online events. The collaboration features make it particularly attractive to certain types of businesses, and the video and audio recording features allow for the preservation of past events in an educational environment as well.
